I’ve read 9 books for the month of March. One book was a revisit of a book from my junior high school days, Go Ask Alice. Another was a graphic novel, which I seem to be reading more of these days. The graphic novel happens to be by one of my favorite writers, Jim Butcher. The list is as follows:

1. Go Ask Alice by Anonymous (audiobook)

2. River Woman, River Demon by Jennifer Givhan (audiobook)

3. American God’s by Neil Gaiman (audiobook)

4. Riverman by Ben McGrath (audiobook)

5. Red Bones by Ann Cleeves (audiobook)

6. The Dresden Files: Welcome to the Jungle by Jim Butcher (graphic novel)

7. The Iceman by Anthony Bruno (audiobook)

8. The Bone Code by Kathy Reichs (audiobook)

9. Bones Never Lie by Kathy Reichs (audiobook)

I used to be addicted to Kathy Reichs books when they were first published, but when the show Bones came out, I cast them aside for television. I’m back and loving them once again. The Book River Woman, River Demon, was a very interesting book. It was the March book club book from the New York public library. It’s not my normal type of book, but I enjoyed it thoroughly.

Here’s a list of books that I’ve read for the month of February.

1. In the Cold, Dark Ground – Stuart MacBride (audio)

2. Exit Music – Ian Rankin – (audio)

3. Turn Right at Machu Picchu – Mark Adams (audio)

4. A Glorious Freedom – Lisa Congdon (book)

5. Even Dogs in the Wild – Ian Rankin (audio)

6. The Devil’s Star – Jo Nesbo (audio)

As you can see I didn’t read many books this month. One of my favorites was A Glorious Freedom, which is a book about women growing older and beginning a new and glorious chapter in their lives. Whether it was beginning a new career and becoming a marathon racer while in their 40s, 50s, and beyond.

I am back at this again, with a goal of reading or listening to 80 books for the year.  Last year I read 67 books but forgot to keep the list online.  This year I strive to be better.  With that in mind, here’s January’s list.

1. Set in Darkness – Ian Rankin (audiobook)

2. Broken Skin – Stuart MacBride (audiobook)

3. Cold Earth – Ann Cleeves (audiobook)

4. Wild Fire – Ann Cleeves (audiobook)

5. Stray Bullets – David Lapham (graphic novel)

6. Cockroaches – Jo Nesbo (audiobook)

7. Saints of the Shadow Bible – Ian Rankin (audiobook)

8. The Burning – Jonathan and Jesse Kellerman (audiobook)

That’s all I have for this month.

Here’s the list for February. This month I read a few graphic novels and actually finished two actual books. The rest were audiobooks. I have an addiction to listening to audiobooks,. They remind me of my childhood when my mom would read to me. I also used to love story time at the library. Audiobooks takes me back to those times. I also love the fact that I can take the story anywhere I go.

1. Invincible : Eight is Enough – Robert Kirkman & Corey Walker. (graphic novel)

2. Invincible: Perfect Stranger (same as above)

3. The String Diaries – Stephen Llyod Jones (audiobook)

4. The Interior Silence – Sarah Sands (audiobook)

5. Shook One – Charlamagne Tha God (audiobook)

6. Create Dangerously – Edwidge Danticat (book)

7. Getting to Happy – Terry McMillan (audiobook)

8. Humans of New York – Brandon Stanton (book)

I have been trying to broaden my reading interest. I usually only read crime or mysteries. So this year I am going for books like biographies, art books, and fiction outside of crime novels. I also realize that I am now a much slower reader. It takes me way longer to finish an actual book. I know it’s because I have to sit still, hold the book and read. That takes away from my creating, which I can easily do with audiobooks. I am trying to dedicate at least 30 minutes a day to actually sitting down and reading. It hasn’t taken on the form of a habit yet. But I will keep trying.

So this year I am trying something new. I am keeping a book log on the blog. Every year I make a goal of reading a certain number of books, and after a while, usually within 2-3 weeks I will forget to log the books. My goal this year is 100 books, and they include audiobooks, graphic novels, and magazines. Here’s my list for the month of January.

1. The Book Tour – Andi Watson (graphic novel)

2. Silence of the Lambs – Thomas Harris (audiobook)

3. The Long Call – Ann Cleeves (audiobook)

4. Blindman’s Bluff – Faye Kellerman (audiobook)

5. Nina- a story of Nina Simone – Traci N. Todd (audiobook)

6. Bloodless – Lincoln Child, Douglas Preston (audiobook)

7. Unsub – Meg Gardiner (audiobook)

I am trying to make more time to actually read more physical books. I work a full time job, and I also own a small business making handmade items, so finding the time to sit and read isn’t always easy. I have made a vow to read from an actual book at least 20 minutes per day, but to be honest that only happens maybe twice a week. At least I haven’t stopped trying.
